Historic buildings get $500K grants - The Natchez Democrat

NATCHEZ — The Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History awarded nearly $3 million in grants during a special meeting Friday, more than $500,000 of which is earmarked for historic properties in Natchez.

Temple B’Nai Israel has been approved for $286,384 for upgrades to the electrical system and fire suppression and the Natchez Institute — which houses the Historic Natchez Foundation — has been approved for $243,375 for roof replacement, window restoration and cornice repair, MDAH officials said.

NATCHEZ - Temple B'nai Israel will host a presentation of Mark Twain's play The Diaries of Adam and Eve at 7pm Saturday and 2pm Sunday. The event marks the first time the temple has ever hosted a theatrical play, and the proceeds will help raise money for a $3 million temple restoration project.

NATCHEZ - Springtime has great significance to different cultures, but for both Jewish and non-Jewish traditions, it is a time of sacred feasts. Temple B'nai Israel began its Passover celebration Friday evening with an Oneg Shabbat - a reception that featured traditional music performed by Dr. David Goldblatt and a message by visiting Rabbi Ellen Nemhauser. The celebration will continue with a Passover Seder dinner beginning at 6pm on Saturday, March 24, said Elise Rushing, TBI member, and everyone is invited, Jewish or not.

Mark Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve

The Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life (ISJL) proudly presents Mark Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve, edited and adapted for the stage by David Birney. This timeless tale of the first family offers sparkling Mark Twain wit and wisdom in a unique staging, with classic characters brought to dazzling life.

The performance will be followed by refreshments and optional tours of historic Temple B'nai Israel. All proceeds benefit the Temple B'nai Israel Restoration and Preservation Fund.

Tickets available online at Brown Paper Tickets and in person at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center.
